Harlem’s Very Own Dapper Dan
Please take some time out of your day to read about Dapper Dan, one of New York’s finest characters, a man who pioneered street-wear in the early 1980s by co-opting luxury branding from the likes of Louis Vuitton and MCM and designing original menswear with high-end detail—including exquisite leathers, furs, and skins. His store was once located on 125th Street in Harlem and visited by many rappers and celebrated. There’s a great interview done by Jay Z’s site Life and Times with Dapper Dan which is truly insightful on how things ran in Harlem during the 80s.
