Dope Jams NYC Closing
Historic NYC record store Dope Jams, located at 580 Myrtle Ave in Brooklyn has been home to one of the big apple’s greatest collection of dance and electronic music for the last 7 years. Going against the grain and back to the routes of a music record shop selling only vinyl, the team has managed to win over many hearts and minds of music lovers all over. With the above said, it really sad to learn that the store will be closing it’s doors for good on January 26, 7 years to the day since opening. They will be holding a closing party on the last night from 8 PM until the store closes for good.
Dope jams was a record shop that prided itself on championing good electronic music, highlight and supporting some of the best electronic music likewise making sure they held to account certain music producers for their shortcomings and below-par music, their recent “best and worst of 2012″ mail-out, for instance, had this to say about Carl Craig and his remix of Recloose’s ‘Magic’: “Carl Craig has sunk to a new low this year. He has gone from making lazy tracks that make rich spaniards feel that Detroit vibe in Ibiza to literally catering to this crowd. This record sounds like dance music you would hear in H&M, Urban Outfitters or some other shitty clothing store. You can just see Soul Clap sitting around talking about how they wish they could make a track like this one day.”
