The Topstar’s first released in 1975, during an exciting time for culture and sport.
New York would play an integral role in shaping popular culture as we know it, with Hip Hop being born in the South Bronx and CBGB’s becoming the landmark venue for pre-punk stalwarts The Ramones, Blondie and Talking Heads.
This classic silhouette would be released the same year that two legendary PONY athletes, David Thompson and Daryl Dawkins would begin their professional basketball careers. Basketball led the stylistic keynote for the Topstar; originally released in NBA team colourways, in both leather and suede.
